trailpal, me too. I just didn't see results, I think the dosage wasn't high enough. Luckily, I have a fresh package I ordered for Buster.

Karen, you can use Traumeel on the horses too. And you can safely put it on under wraps.

Would liquid MSM do the same? Or did I miss it while reading. I havd an Accident about a year ago and still have back pain from it. Willing to try anything to get rid of it. Thanks Cathie

Cathie, I think that the dosage is the key. I have tried 2-3 different human joint supplements and they made little to no difference. I am hearing much larger doses, of just MSM, not all the other stuff.
I just checked - the new MSM I bought is 99% pure. It is a brand called "command" - Valley Vet had free shipping on it. Anyway, how much is the right amount for a person?

Here's another question...storage. I remember reading somewhere that MSM loses it's effectiveness if it's stored at too high or low of a temperature. I'm not too worried about it this summer, but what about winter? Does it still work as well if they maybe dont' get it every single day? I may have to keep mine at home and take it with me when I go to the barn, and I probably won't make it EVERY day, especially in winter since the back roads don't get cleared very well a lot of times...

Amber, I think daily dosing is important. What I do is mix little baggies of supplements that they feed with their grain. I keep the baggies in a bucket that hangs just outside the stall. All of our stalls have care instructions - one baggie with his morning handful of oats. Mine has vitamins with probiotics - Equerrys plus the MSM. Glucosomine is soon to be added, but that stuff is pricier and I sure hope worth it!

FYI - Here is an article about the relationship between DMSO and MSM. (MSM is a product of DMSO breakdown.) It was originally published in The Arthritis Foundation's Monthly Magazine "Arthritis Today" and is about the human use of MSM. www.nwhealthsolutions.com/arthritisfoundationMSM-DMSO.html

But my point is that I was reading that I was reading that it shouldn't be stored at too high or low of a temp. So leaving it in the barn in winter time would expose it to below-freezing temps for a long period of times.

Here is the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for MSM msds.farnam.com/m001062.htm That's a standard sheet about properties of a chemical. I didn't see anything about too hot/too cold. I keep mine in the barn year round and it appears to work even in winter. There is no reason to think it would have a problem, it is a small crystal like salt. Where did you get your info? I have noticed there are some weird sites out there trying to sell it as a cure for arthritis and it's in their interest to make it look all mysterious and sensitive so you think you have to buy more.

All I can tell you is the site I put in the original post led me to believe that we need 1-8GRAMS a day, or some people up to 20 GRAMS! I can tell you that I am taking the 1/3 ounce=9400mg dose a day, split into two doses. I got the crystals because it's WAY cheaper than liquid, and all you have to do is mix it in a bit of water and chug it. Been working great for me so far. I'm waiting for the other benefits to kick in, as well. I haven't perished from taking horse grade MSM yet, either..obviously

Yep, I have been taking MSM for 2 years. A fireman told me about it when we went camping with the horses a couple of years ago. Incidentally, ever since I am taking MSM, my chiro visits have gone from once a month to twice a year.

Its the DMSO that can't be stored under a certain temp. It freezes solid if you do, I'm thinking its something like 50 degrees.... And DMSO is the one that will absorb water thru the bottle and become weaker-but that is OK the weaker it is the less skin irritating it is too. I use that on my knee when it gets REALLY bad, like during a flare-or after a stumble, I wonder if I can use the arnica along with it? I kinda have switched to the Arnica cream instead its almost as effective. I've used it on my horses too-they HATE it, run when they see you with the bottle hate-even if you do have carrots.

Given that the dmso is a carrier, I bet it would carry the arnica, cream and all, into the horse's tissues. I think I'd use the most pure form of arnica to prevent the emollients and cream from going in.
