Pamz, that's awful!! But that's not the first thing like that I've heard about Exiss trailers. A friend of mine had one, and after using it for a year, it was beat to heck. Corners bent, leaked, rivets popped etc. It looked like it should have been at least 10 years old.
I haven't heard anything good about them from people who have owned them.

Mary Ann, Sundowner. I know we talked about this before you bought your trailer:) but there are two things I'd have the dealer check regularly. I'd have them check the underside where the aluminum meets the steel annually as I said above. I'd be more neurotic on the aluminum welds and have them checked more frequently. They have a machine that must be used to inspect those welds properly - I'd call it something like an x-ray machine but of course it's completely different. It can't be inspected by looking at it or feeling around it or anything like that.
Equispirit: Equispirit goes to great lengths to ensure that the paint goes on the metal immediately to prevent even the slightest of moisture getting under the paint and on the metal. So, probably that is where they are coming from on their website. That whole galvaneal process is supposed to be very good.
On the width of slant loads, see if the extra wide ones have wheel wells inside. I don't like the wheel wells inside and it makes it look like the horses have more room than they actually have.
Mangers are considered a negative on long trips because horses need to get their heads down sometimes.
I'll probably get a slant load, but it will be configured so that I can change it to a two horse straight load. To do that it must be a three-horse slant or bigger. I would not buy a two horse slant myself but I would consider a two horse straight load.
On the front horse door, safetly people think that you should be able to get each horse out of the trailer without having to unload another horse.
Mary Ann is right about the potential for a horse to slip under the trailer in a step up. I've always had ramps, but most people I have ever know did oot and iI saw no accidents. However, I *have* heard reports of accidents so that's a judgment call for you. Most people I know don't want a ramp.

Hey, I just want to tell everyone how much I appreciate the lively discussion! It has been very informative. It has given me lots to think about and consider. I know that everyone has their biases and opinions, but it is all great input. Unfortunately, it is hard to find "consumer reports" for horse trailers.
I do read horsetrailerworld, and learned alot about hauling there... but... it is a very regional thing and they talk alot about brands that aren't highly available here. I have read mr truck's reviews, and have you noticed he only gives good ones?
Also, I think ramps are a regional thing. There are not common here, but I get the impression that in some parts of the country it is considered a "must have". Ingela's six horse has what I think is a big step down, but everyone of those horses does it calmly and safely. Bon Bon, bolts backwards out of her owner's little two horse, but backs carefully out of that mega trailer. .... not sure why. Anyway, a step down is all I have known and I guess I am most comfortable with it. The Hawk had a noticably shorter step, and I liked that.
So I appreciate the suggestions about the shelters. I have no problem spending a few hundred, or even more, to get covered parking for my trailer, but I have nowhere to put it. It isn't permitted at the barn because she keeps a very tidy looking place, and I live in a suburban neighbhorhood with covenants that doesn't allow it. Covered parking at those storage places is OUTRAGEOUS so that option doesn't make sense. Anyway, I am stuck with parking in the elements, since I want the trailer at the barn for convenience.
So, I will keep you posted as I continue my research.
