to loose weight, I would like to loose 100 pounds but it's not going to be easy. My major problem is 3 days a week I don't get out of work until 10:30 pm and I have supper after that. As far as eating at work, we only get 2 15 minute breaks and no lunch. But I'm eating healthier, insted of grabbing a candy bar or cake I grabbed an orange and a banana today. I think it'll help to have you guys as a support group.

Welcome Kala. Do you go to bed right after you come home? If so, maybe you could eat a sandwich at your last 15 minute break and then a piece of fruit when you get home before you go to bed. It would take some getting used to. I have worked 2nd and 3rd shifts and they are difficult hours to figure out when to eat each meal.

I would, as MJ said, have something on your last 15 minute break, then some sort of protein only (no carbs) when you get home. They say when trying to lose weight, don't have carbs any later than 3 hours before bedtime, so your body has time to properly utilize them.
You can pre-make your dinners, freeze them, then just heat them up when you get home.
You can do it, just remember, it didn't take overnight to need to lose your weight, and it won't take overnight to lose it.
But, if you don't make any changes, it will stay the same.
Good start on the fruit, rather than the candy!

Kala... ok now dont choke when I tell you the quick fix meal I ate for several months when I was seriously dieting...
I wanted something fast... no fuss... I would open a small can of chicken breast... can of green beans... small can of mushrooms... and zap warm.
I can to prefer the 'natural' flavors of those foods... and it was filling...and yes I did loose weight...
I even took my meal in a tupperware to a few horse shows... decided that since I has hungry.. I didnt care if it was warmed up or not..
worked for me! When I got a hankerin for something sweet, I would open a can of mandarin oranges... (aldi brand was the best!) rinse off the juice... and yum!

Kala, glad to have you join us! In addition to fruit during your morning snack, you might add some protein of some kind since you don't get a "lunch" break. Maybe a small handfull of almonds or walnuts? or some cheese? Maybe even cheese & crackers? or a 1/2 sandwich?

String cheese makes a great, high protein zero carb snack. I love the ones that have the stripes...(its just more fun)

If you do eat a sandwich you can use the fat free cheese, and then low calorie meat. They even have fat free hot dogs and bologna nowadays, and then of course there is always turkey and chicken. Oh and the high fiber bread (about 5 grams) is really hearty and sticks with you really well. Or a Lean Cuisine is great if you have a microwave. Welcome to the lighter side of life.

Kala, So glad you are joining us. It is sooo good to get support and ideas from people who care about you!
I do Weight Watchers and our leader said something the other day that really stuck with me. (Well, can't remember the exact words but the IDEA stuck with me). She said something like she has stopped "trying" and now either she does or she doesn't. It came up when I said that I was going to try to get back on track with meal planning. And she said "well are you?"... my answer was... "I will try... maybe I can...well, yes I will!"

Newfygirl- I like string cheese too that's a great Idea. Marci- I just can't do fat free cheese I just don't eat it as much or I get the low fat cheeses. I do like turkey. And we have Lean Cuisine on sale this week at the store. Sheryl- Thanks, that is a good idea.

Hi Kala, dont try to lose weight, just DO continue to make healthier eating choices most of the time --Nothing should be off limits every day that is too hard to keep up; and find ways to sneak in more steps everyday. Stairs intead of elevator, or stop elevator one floor early and walk one flight, park farther from the doors when shopping and at work. it will add up. Losing up to 2 lbs a week is fine for not panicing the body, but if you lose 1 lb a week the weight is even more likely to stay gone forever. Depends what works, some folks may need the reward of more rapid loss, and others may need to make smaller life adjustments to be able to succeed.

I talked to my mom tonight and we are going to start walking. I tried joining a gym once but they had me doing some abdominal exercises and I tore some adhesions. (I’ve has several abdominal surgeries.) Talk about hurting.

Walking is great! Just thirty minutes a day tips the balance in your favor. I wish I could walk here. I'm such a wuss about the wind.

Another thing about string cheese is that it takes a while to eat it...you know, you have to get the strings peeled etc! I can't stand "fake food". Like veggie burgers or ground up stuff thats supposed to be a substitute for meat. ick. I'd rather have a smaller portion of something real that has flavor and texture instead of looking and tasting like plastic (ever try that Morning Star veggie crap - eew!)
