High calorie food offered at office or by a friend. --defense -agree to take it home -if you have points or whatever have a portion size you choose, then give rest or all of it to spouse, critters or garbage can.

My biggest problem is hidden calories. So I just don't go out. If I cook it myself, I know what's in it. It's funny how people will try and push food on you and not take no for an answer if you tell them you're dieting. But if you tell them you're allergic, they drop it right away. People are weird.

I am my own worst enemy. I lose track, and throw in the towel. Little things don't normally tempt me when I am exercising, even if I am not watching everything I eat. I just threw away a carton of ice cream buried in the back of the freezer since Thanksgiving. Forgot about it, LOL. But, many times, once I start, it is hard to stop. I can easily turn down things that are offered, but if I decide to take something, it is often not the last of it. I try the water trick as much as possible. If I seem hungry, I will drink. If I am STILL hungry a short time later, I will eat something. I always drink a full glass of water before a meal. Eating out? Have a salad or an apple before you go. That way, you are not *starving* and don't need the bread in the basket, or the appetiser. Not too hungry a the restaurant? Have a side salad and an appetiser. Makes a great meal sometimes!

My biggies are:
Stress - my response is food and a good book; haven't found a really good defense yet other than sometimes playing on the internet
Lack of planning - if I'm hungry, but haven't planned my meals; if I'm on the way home from dinner, but don't know what's for dinner yet; no lunch plans - defenses are to plan ahead and to keep healthy food available at work

hmmm, Enemy - restless boredom in the evening - too dark, cold, icy to go outside. Already ate supper, still munchy.
Defense - pick up my knitting or crochet, hard to eat with my hands full!

unsconsious eating My only defense to not have food sitting in front of me. If you set an open pack of M&Ms or nuts in front of me, I will start to munch. I did that once, not even realizing I was eating!!! Out of sight, I wouldn't even think about them.
portion size creep defense - measure or at least consciously estimate. Also, Bites, licks, tastes, candies from some else's desk, birthday cake and Costco samples really do count

One that bit me several years ago was being too gung-ho. I was following a plan and doing well, went up to mark/clear trails for a ride I was managing and stuck to the plan while I was being WAY more active. I lost too much weight those two weeks and when I got home I felt famished and craving sweets so I quit and it took me over 2 years to be ready again --so then I was careful to eat more when I was more active than usual. Lost weight and pretty much kept it off till last year when I gained about 1/2 of it back.

oh mary ann you are so right!!! if you tell a person you are allergic to something they back right off..
I have never been able to think quick enough with the allergy remark... I will try to instill that in my memory!!!
many years ago.. I phoned a dietician on the radio.. it was just before the holidays and she was offering free advice on eathing healthy during the holidays. The question I asked was... what to do or say when I am a guest ( at my mother in laws!!!) and she bakes tons of nasty desserts and wont take NO for an answer on the first, seconds and thirds...
her reply was that the hostess wants to serve.. so when I say no to a dessert... tell her I will have some later.. and politely ask for a cup of coffee!!! It worked!!! I couldnt believe how easy it was.. and she was right.. my mil did not remember later that I had NOT eaten any of her desserts because her need to 'serve' was fulfilled with the coffee!!!
trickery!!! I love it! ;D

Snaffle, that's a great idea! I really like the distract with coffee plan. Another thought is when you're offered something, you might say "Hmmm, it really looks delicious, but I'm not digesting things all that well lately..." while you're kind of screwing up your face. I think they back off because they fear TMI.

Mine is justification...if I have a bad day I tell myself it's ok to have a whopper and milkshake for lunch. Or I can eat three hershey's bars because I know I'm PMSy. Or I didn't bring something healthy to eat today, so I can just eat doritos and Mountain Dew from the vending machine on those days. Or worse...I tell myself I'm going to start working out next week, so I can eat whatever I want this week. I still have yet to really begin working out, that would really help out with this whole weightloss thing.
