Thanksgiving is next week, and again the menu around here seems to be one designed by default. There'll be turkey gravy with stuffing, and mashed potatoes and that insidious can of cranberry glick my SIL loves (and usually eats the whole can). Hubby and I like most everything, SIL will eat green, but the grandsons and DD do not. No green beans, no lovely creamed spinach, no brussels sprouts or salads. They'll eat a pinch of corn, but geez that makes a meal of meat with starch, starch, starch, and starch. Anybody have any great ideas? I'm really desperate here! Oh, and there'll be the obligatory pies, probably pumkin and pecan, or maybe apple. What's on your Thanksgiving menu? What ideas can I steal?

You can't please everyone all the time. How about broccoli. Most kids love broccoli with cheese sauce. In fact, throw cheese sauce on about any veggie and they'll eat it!

We'll have the obligatory turkey - DH would kill me if I left that off. With the potatoes and a sausage and cornbread dressing. I HATE canned cranberry sauce and will not buy it. We buy fresh cranberries every year at this time and freeze enough to have them all year long. I make a cranberry/orange relish - one plain, one with horseradish, and one with pecans. I also make a cranberry jell - yeah, we love cranberries here! I'll do fresh greenbeans if I can find them - frozen if not, but I cannot do canned - they feel too mushy for me. A big green salad, homemade dill rolls, a crudite plate and anything else I can think of. Dessert this year will probably be apple pie, raisen pie and pecan pie. I have one son that LOVES apple and one that LOVES pecan and a hubby that waits all year for Thanksgiving to get a raisen pie

I am pretty sure I spelled that correctly. Make it out of potatoes and use some nice chopped up yards sticks to flip it on the griddle. They are so yummy with butter and sugar, then roll it up and eat. YUM! My grandma Peterson (Mom's mom) used to do Lutefisk once a year. Either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Depending on when the family got together. Usually Thanksgiving. It is a stinky cooking fish.

Have you ever had krub? Or KrumKake - I make Krumkake every year - and I guard my krumkake iron jealously! I didn't make lefse last year - maybe this year I will get more motivated again And just the name lutefisk conjures up that smell for me! LOL

Probably, but not as much as lefse. I am pretty sure that Great G'ma used to do this once in a while.
Yah, lutefisk....says it all. LOL

I'd just like to know how lutefisk found it's way into a thread for fussy eaters! ;D

The mention of Lefse of course. It definitly a Norvegin thang!!! Tell the DD and boys if they don't eat something green you will pull out the lutefisk! That might make think twice about refusing the greens.

MMMMMMM- Thanksgiving ;-) I've got a great creamed corn recipe (make it in the crockpot) , it's really yummy!!! VERY rich and fattening, but SOO good!! We're having turkey, stuffing, homemade creamed corn, butternut squash, whipped sweet potatoes, regular mashed potatoes, carrots with blasamic vinegarette and brown sugar (sounds strange but tastes awesome!), and I LIKE canned cranberry sauce ;-) along with the assorted desserts...... I bet they'd like the creamed corn!

how about a raw veggie tray. Even i fpeople smother the veggies in dip, they'll still be eating good veggies!
And how about nice baby peas with mushrooms for a veggie dish.
