Not from either of our Lindas. It's from Midwest Living, April 1994. the "Linda" is the proprietor of a B&B in Kansas. Can't remember what town. I made this once and it was fabulous. I think it's time to trot this recipe out again! +++++++++++++
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups butter or margarine 3 cups sugar 5 eggs 3 c ups flour 3/4 cup lemon lime soda 2 tablespoonslemon extract or lemon juice.
(these ingredients are for the original recipe. I made a somewhat lighter version using 1 1/4 cups butter, 2 1/2 cups sugar and 1 cup pop)
Directions:
Great anf flour a 10 inch tube pan or bundt cake pan. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter or margarine an dsugar til light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Beat in flour, 1 cup at a time, alternately with the soda. Add lemon juice or extract.
Pour into prepared pan and bake at 350 for 60 to 65 minutes or til a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan 10 minutes, then remove from pan.
Dust with powdered sugar or make a light glaze iwth lemon juice and powdered sugar. Pour glaze on top of cake and let it run down the sides.

Wait, what August gathering?? Hey Linda, did I ever tell you that some of my parents' close friends growing up were named Hoppe? I've never run across the name before - it's neat that you have it too!

Oh let me think...let's see...I think my mom was born in Tennessee but they moved to Kansas not long after. My dad was born in Texas. They met at college (can't remember which one), and the Hoppes were their friends from...church? Missionary school? Argh. Brain melt. I shouldn't have said they were close friends growing up, that's not right - I think they met once my parents became missionaries. I remember visiting them when we were on furlough a few times, but for the life of me I can't remember what state they were in. LOL I'm useless! I'll have to talk to my mom and get back to you.
