Was watching a cooking show the other Saturday. I LOVE Sloppy Joes! The best were what they use to fix in grade school. OK I’m weird, but that is another post. I never knew how to make them. I tried using the canned stuff just add meat, but to me the acid was too high and it was like eating tomato paste, the heart burn was too much for me.
Here is what the show said to do and I tried it....IT’S GREAT! Sloppy Joes
1 medium onion chopped small 2 stocks of celery chopped same size as onion ½ a medium green bell pepper chopped same size as onion Garlic powder to taste a bit of olive oil 1 to 1 ½ lbs of ground beef 1 can of tomato sauce
Put a bit of olive oil in a pan a bit of garlic powder and sweat the veggies (the onions turn translucent and the other veggies start to get a bit soft). Add meat and brown, drain fat and add the can of tomato sauce. Bring to a boil and turn heat off. Toast burger buns and spoon up the meat sauce. It takes about a hour to fix.
I will have to try this next time I do a brisket and use the shred the meat

OK - because I'm a really fussy eater - this is my version of sloppy joes:
Brown a pound or so of ground beef/chuck/sirloin salt and pepper (1 tsp or so) add a 16 ounce can of pork and beans (you can also add a can of bean and bacon soup) add about 1 cup of ketchup (more or less depending on how "liquidy" you want it) cover and simmer for about 15 minutes
It's quick and yummy!
