Years ago, when I was in college, I subscribed to the Louisville Courier Journal, from Louisville, Kentucky. The quality of their journalism was exceptional. In this city of the Kentucky Derby, mint juleps and a horse community steeped in tradition, this dessert was offered by the editor of the paper and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bingham, Jr., during Derby Week. It tastes like a giant warm chocolate chip cookie. 'Tis to die for! Excellent winter or early spring pie, delicious with coffee, plain or Irish. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bingham Jr.'s Winner's Circle Pie 1/4 c. butter 1 c. sugar 3 eggs 3/4 c. light corn syrup 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. chocolate chips (use high quality, like Ghirardelli) 1/2 c. chopped black walnuts (you can substitute English walnuts, but it's not quite the same) 2 Tbsp. bourbon (I've cheated and used brandy) 8-9" unbaked pie crust Cream butter, add sugar gradually. Add beaten eggs, syrup, salt, and vanilla. Add chocolate chips, nuts, and bourbon; stir well. Bake at 375, 40-50 minutes. Serve warm or cold, and try, just try, to have some leftovers!

Oh dear, I could never eat this. I'm terribly allergic to walnuts.
