I know it's some sort of lizard thing, but don't know what kind. First one I've ever seen around here. I found it when I was cleaning a pasture. It's about 3" long.

La-de-da, what a fancy looking little fellow! Is he going to become a houseguest? What the heck do they eat?

MaryAnn, NO, it's not becoming a houseguest! I left it out in the pasture where I found it.

Hey I just read that they hibernate til March and then go looking for a mate. So perhaps its is a sure sign of an early spring? ;D I know my Jasmine bush has leaves! Horse hair everywhere and the grass is growing like crazy!

The decription of the long toed nothern sounds like it fits. ;D Who would know we could all get so excited over a salamander. LOL You know you might want to send your photo to one of these sites-its so clear and maybe its some really rare or undiscovered type of salamander. LOL At any rate its really pretty-for a salamander.

My son, the fitness guru, is an amateur herpatologist. He loffs snakes, lizards, and other creepy creatures. I can send the picture to him too for verification, but I'll bet that's what it is!
Abe has a Boa. He's also had scorpions for pets, ugh.

My son (the one who rides) has 5 Leopard Geckos and 2 Corn snakes and loves all things reptilian. The only A+ in school he gets are projects, reports etc about herps. I will post pictures sometime, they are kinda pretty for reptiles.

I think you are right about it being a long toed thing.
Chris, feel free to send the pic. to your son if you want.
Marci, I hope you are right about an early spring! But I did find it under some old hay, so maybe it was still hybernating? I always listen for the frogs for the first sign of spring. They have been singing for a week or so now.

My son started out collecting black rat snakes. I'd come home from work to find him in the back yard with a big snake wrapped around himself, and he'd be so proud!
When he was in junior high, I bought him a membership in the state's herpetological society. We went to some meetings where members showed off their herps and there were interestign talks about them.
Abe loved going to those.
He still goes on snake hunts with his buddies and he's 27 now!

We only have boring gardner snakes around these parts. Even the salamanders aren't THAT common especially the pretty one Kit found. Reptile hunting is pretty limited in Western WA.
