I've been in lurker mode Thought I would update those of you who know me (it's Kel from SM)...I have a cyst on my ovary that is a solid mass and needs to be removed. I waited for over a week to get a surgery date, but finally it's set for Fri, Feb. 12. It will be laproscopic, through my navel. I'm a little nervous about it, because when the doc did the ultrasound, she said she also saw possible fibroids and endometriosis. I've never really had problems, except after the miscarriage last year. Because I *do not* want to ovulate again (quite painful) until the surgery, and because I've been a hormonal nightmare wiht early pregnancy-like symptoms, they let me start b/c pills. The first type kept me from sleeping. It sure is hard to teach 7th graders on a few hours' rest! Started a new brand yesterday and finally got a good night' sleep. I tell ya, if it's not one thing, it's another. But I'd take it over the pain and raging hormones any day. Have any of you ever had cysts removed? I am wondering how much pain/discomfort there will be, and how long I'll be out of work. Otherwise, life is grand Sorry I stopped in with bad news...I'll try to be more uplifting next time! Kel

Kel, You might want to check out Hyster sisters. I know you are not gettign a hyterrectomy but some of them have been your shoes I'm sure. www.hystersisters.com/I wish it had been around when I was spayed because I probably would have kept an ovary, these hot flashes really suck.

Hi Kel - Hang in there! I had an entire hysterectomy along with a couple of fibroids removed via Laproscopic surgery. (I stil have my ovaries though, as they occasionally remind me.) I didn't have all that much pain, but I was tired ALOT! I also didn't have a lot of patience for "taking it easy". I don't know if you will have the same restrictions that I did, but for about a month, I wasn't allowed to pick up anything over 8 lbs (nothing heavier than a gallon of milk). I wasn't employed at the time, but you can ask your doctor about a slip for medical leave and ask how long you might need to be on leave. I know, it's a little scary to consider, but you should be feeling so much better after everything's healed BTW, I had two other small incisions besides the navel one. Only one stitch in each, I think two in the navel. The first few days I felt a little bloated/gassy, I think they fill your abdomen with air so they have room to work. I also had a little trouble peeing, but that cleared up in about a week - not painful, just didn't feel like I got "emptied". Best thoughts for you! Rosalie

Kel, you will be in my thoughts and prayers!
I've never had laproscopic surgery but I did have 2 c-sections. I don' t know that you'll be as sore as I was since c-sections are much more invasive but you will need to take it easy.
A friend of mine had her tubes tied via laproscopy after the birth of her 4th child. They went in via her navel. That was almost 6 years ago and I rarely see her so I can't ask her about what her recovery was like.
((Hugs)) and if you ever need to talk, you know where to come!
Tina

Wow, thanks for the support, everyone! You all brightened my day -) I am anxious to get this over with. I am tired of being a hormonal mess. Three weeks from today....I hope the time goes quickly.
Marci, I'll check out hystersisters. I peeked around a little at it, and it sure seems like a neat site! I think grits posted about it once too on SM.
