SKAGIT R NR CONCRETE FLOOD STAGE: 28.0 FT. LATEST READING: 20.0 FT AT 06:15 PM MON. FORECAST: RISE TO FLOOD STAGE AROUND 5 AM TUESDAY. CREST NEAR 36.0 FEET AROUND 10 AM WEDNESDAY. FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE THURSDAY MORNING. AT 37.0 FEET...THE SKAGIT RIVER WILL CAUSE MAJOR FLOODING FROM ROCKPORT DOWNSTREAM THROUGH SEDRO WOOLLEY. DEEP AND SWIFT FLOOD WATERS WILL INUNDATE MANY ROADS...FARMS...AND SOME BUSINESS AND RESIDENTIAL AREAS ESPECIALLY CAPE HORN...HAMILTON...AND THUNDERBIRD. COCKREHAM ISLAND...THE NOOKACHAMPS AREA AND THE STERLING AREA WILL BE INUNDATED. LEVEES EAST OF SEDRO WOOLLEY MAY BE DAMAGED. THIS LEVEL FOR THIS LOCATION ON THE SKAGIT CORRESPONDS TO A PHASE 3 FLOOD IN THE SKAGIT COUNTY FLOOD SYSTEM. It doesn't sound TOO bad, but I work right on the river, so may get a day or two off work. I've got an empty pasture just in case Tee needs to evacute their horses again. I'll be keeping a close eye on the river tomorrow. It didn't look to bad this afternoon, but it can change pretty quick. Our lows this week are higher than the highs from last week. This is our forecast: www.srh.noaa.gov/data/forecasts/WAZ003.php?warncounty=WAC057&city=Mount+Vernon

Geez, Kit! That's a really cruel forecast! Rain and rain, followed with rain, which comes with more rain. Next day, rain. You're going to have to grow gills!

Nah, the rain is normal for us.
But the river is rising pretty quick. Last reading at 4:15am, it was at 26.4 ft. Which isn't all that bad, but with the frozen weather we've had the last two weeks, the levees are most like pretty soft and weaker than usual.
I'm on my way to work, so I can keep a close eye on it today.

ayi ayi ayi! Are you in the Pacific Northwest? This reads like the Ken Kesey novel, "Sometimes A Great Notion." chris

Yes, the great wet Pacific NW.
The river is rising SLOWLY today, but they are thinking, one or possibly two more storms coming in. So the chance of flooding will stay thru the weekend at least. It's got several more feet to go before we'll have to leave work.

I am in the next county south of Kit, the area just to the south of Everett, not quite to Snohomish - out home is on the high ground thank goodness! My horse is boarded about a mile from the snohomish river, but the farm is the "high point" in that section of the valley. They said they once had the flood waters almost cross the road but it has never reached the farm.
This whole situation was made worse by the "pineapple express" which is the warm weather causing the big thaw and rain after after the snow and ice. It is running about 50 degrees and raining ... sucks for us and no good skiing either since it got too warm in the mountains.

Well, I was just over the bridge about an hour ago. The river is really high and the boat ramp is level (that's my gauge). But they aren't sandbagging the revetment, so I'm guessing they aren't real concerned about where it is going to crest at. So, barring a d**e blowing out, hopefully you won't have any refugees. ;D
