You do an awesome thing with your rescue. My BF used to volunteer at a no-kill shelter. Until he got to many dogs of his own. He would adopt the hard to place dogs. His dog, Glory, was adopted twice, but returned both time. The people said she was too hyper. She's a bit shy at first. Once you get to know her, she's just a big puppy, and a bit on the lazy side. Cedar, was taken from her owner when she was found on the brink of death. About a year old, nothing but skin and bones (no hair either) She's still scared of people she doesn't know. It took three months before she would even let me pet her. (Now she's my 60lb lap warmer. LOL) He's got another five with their own stories too.
He pushes people to adopt from shelters, instead of breeders too.
Our family dog, Bailey came from an "oops" litter, and was going to go to the shelter when we got her. She's a very smart little dog, and SPOILED rotten.
I can't say enough about how I admire you for the good work you do. I know I don't have the emotional strength to do it. My cats and dogs have always been strays or rescues, but that's a drop in the bucket; people like you who always reach out and make room for more are the true heroes.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
I just want to thank everyone here for their support. I can't say enough good things about my online support group
The 3 little pups are all doing well (they were full of worms) eating well and playing for all they are worth and Poptart is in with my bluetick puppy and having a blast.
Life is precious (both human and animal) and I am honored that I am able to make even a small difference for some.
I got a wonderful email today from a lady I had posted a "favor" listing for her older horse on our website. Devon (the horse) was placed yesterday into a wonderful loving home where he will be able to live out his life! She was so happy to have found him a home that will work with him (navicular) that she is donating his adoption fee to us to help other horses.
As well my mom informed me that she had read in the local paper that one of the 4H groups in the adjoining county is collecting donations for us. I am honored to say the least.... And a sweet girl from upper VA contacted me a few weeks ago to let me know that her JR 4H group is doing a stallion services auction and that their group had chosen our rescue to receive 1/2 of the proceeds from the auction! They also asked that we bring 2 of the rescue horses to the sale (5 hours away)so that people can meet them and they will do a segment in the program on our rescue as well as letting us set out a donation bucket in front of our stalls.
Seems simple. Alter ALL "pets" and even "pets" we think will make nice babies. My heart aches for you and the ones left behind. I dont go into the shelters anymore. I cant bear the misery and unhappiness that oozes from it's soul.

Sigh, Lisa, there's always dolts like my neighbors who don't "believe" in spaying or neutering pets and would rather "dispose" of a litter every year than get their dog spayed... Ugh.... and people wonder why I despise these neighbors...
