My inherited flower garden is bravely growing through snow. Temps have stayed warm enough not to freeze the flowers and they seem to be enjoying the moisture. But I am tired of having both mucky ground in the horse pens and it being too chilly to want to ride on so many weekends. (we did have dry and warm last weekend, just kind of windy, weekend before that had been snow showers like this one)

Sun came out late afternoon. Going to be nice this week too bad I have a job to feed the ponies. Oh well I do have luxurious late start hours and so far no morning meetings are scheduled to ruin that. Those darn bulbs and then in summer the hollyhocks are too pretty to just let them die but the beds are way too huge so I spend way too many hours working to keep the cheat grass from taking over. This year once the grassy stem bulbs die back I think I'll try the grass killer spray. But cheat grass heads out really early so I still have to pull and hoe it now.

The grass killer spray can be put on as.soon as the snow melts off. It takes a while to see that it works because it starts killing at the roots. If you hoe that grass, the broken roots will start new plants. Just cut off the heads if they start to form--give it another spray while you are doing it--and get those roots killed. And if you manage to find it in concentrate or larger bottles, please let me know.
You can also put down Preem granules--they prevent seeds from sprouting. They won't kill any weeds you.already have growing. They won't bother bulbs, but they should really cut down on new weeds coming up.

We have been having a nice (so far) spring. It rains a few days we have sun a few days, like today the first half was lovely, sunny warm (almost 70) but the fog rolled in and it cooled right down. its 54 at almost midnight. So not too bad. The wild rhododendrons are insane this year. At this rate there will be none left for the Rhody parade in 3 weeks. And my little garden is starting to take shape. I did a theme with fairys this year. its cute. Its all in shade so not really sure what is going to grow. I have tons of pics.....LOL
