Just thinking of you. Remember, you don't need two horses while boarding. Having just one horse makes life more simple and gives the two of you all the time together.

I agree. I realy like Flicka but I'm having trouble exercising two. Everyone at the stable is trying to convince me to wait it out. They think I'm crazy to even consider selling now. even the BO. She has to build a new enclosure for her own mare pretty soon. She said building a good enclosure for Flicka "is the easy part.". She sounds willing. I'm really confused. The Asale barn owner is trying to get info for me.

Well my first instinct was of course you don't want to sell. But after Kit's post and your response to it I really came around to selling Flicka might be the best option for the 3 of you. Don't let other boarders who would love to have a cute spring foal around w/o any of the responsibilities sway you one way or the other. Ask god to help you make the right decision and trust in however he gives you an answer.

I think R4F hit the nail on the head. Since you have had no luck getting any info from the previous owner to this point I am going to say it was not a planned breeding and that they don't want her back. You don't know what she was bred to or when she was bred. What if the stud was a shetland pony or a draft horse? Maybe one of those boarders who are trying to convince you not to sell wants to buy her...if not I say down the road she goes. You can't just keep her to see what the baby looks like and play with it a little. Having 2 1/2 horses in your situation is more stressful than it is worth. If you were back at your old home where you had them in the back yard and had total control it would be a different story. Once that baby hits the ground it will be a lot harder for you to let go of it.

Well you can try to sell her. If she does then the problems is solved, but if not then its time to get prepared. Especially if you haven't boned with her. What is meant to happen will. Funny how we puny humans make plans then God/fate laughs and says no. And throws a monkey wrench into our lives. Like a freakin roller coaster ride. Up, down, twisting around so you see more clearly a part of your life that you wished could have been different. But each thing makes us who we are supposed to be. Becoming a diamond is tough work. Life is much easier with 1 horse. But sometimes easier isn't as good for us. I know there are days when I long for being horseless. Yeah NEVER thought I would say that. But its so hard now. But I know I would miss the heck out of horses, Shadows silly self especially. That horse loving little girl is still alive somewhere deep within me. But I need to find a different way of letting her out.

I was having trouble exercising two since I don't live on site. The reason I bought Flicka was to have a gaited horse so I ccould go trail riding with the twh boarders.

Would it be possible to find a lease arrangement for her? The person who leases her (for perhaps the cost of her upkeep) could keep the foal after weaning, and you can get your horse back to ride with the gaited folks. It means Cookie has to be the *A* horse for another while, but then Flicka could pick up where she left off once the baby's weaned. That could be as early as late summer or early fall.
Finding a good horse with a great temperament is a hard thing to do. You may already have the one you want in your barn. It's another option to consider, anyway. I know you'll do what's best for you.
