We have 6 1 month old kittens that have on and off goopy eyes. Sometimes they are glued shut, other times just look irritated. They seem otherwise healthy - no snotty noses or sneezing, eating, playing, growing fine. They had older siblings born in June who never had any health issues. I have been washing them off with warm water and opening them up. Without running up a huge vet bill - what are some suggestions for clearing this up. They are starting to eat on their own and will be moved on to new homes in a couple weeks but need to get healthy first.

I think you should be washing them with normal saline--not water. Contact lens solution should be real cheap, unless your vet would sell you a liter of saline (IV solution.) Don't you pay the vets enough that you can call them and ask for simple remedies?

. You would think, lol. I don't know if they are money hungry or just making sure they are covering their behind but a lot of them are not very forthcoming. I was surprised a few weeks ago when I discovered Twister had a big scratch on his eye. Of course it was about 20 minutes after the vet closed on a Saturday afternoon so I called and left a message on the after hours line that said "I know his eye his scratched, I can see the scratch, I don't need it looked at, I just need atropine and some non-steroid eye goop" and by golly she called back and said "no problem, which eye antibiotic do you want", lol.
I think I might even have some saline solution in my house. Otherwise it is pretty cheap and I am going to Walmart tonight anyway.
