Marshall He is an 8 year old Pit/Boxer (???mix) He has arthritis in his hips, some skin/food issues, is pretty thin, and has bounced around from different shelters for quite a while. DH has really been missing Nick. They were a team. We've been talking about adopting an older dog to hang out with Rosie when she cuts back in agility. I've seen this guy on our local shelters website for a while and showed him to DH. He stopped to visit yesterday, but was unsure, because we both thought there was a limit of 3 dogs unless you had a kennel license. I chatted with the shelter manager last night, found out there was no limit to the number of animals we could have. She was thrilled that we were considering him and said he'd be lucky to have us, provided he got along with the girls. We stopped at the shelter on my way home from the agility trial today (10 minutes before closing) for a meet & greet. That went well, so we brought him home.

Sounds like a winning situation. Marshall is cute and John looks great with a dog sharing his chair.

Neat! It is hard for older dogs to get good homes - and yours will be a great one!

Aw, bless you for giving a forever home to an older dog! He's a very lucky fellow to have landed with you. So tell us. What do you like best about him so far? What're the rough edges you'll need to address? Congratulations to all of you, especially Marshall!

Aw, bless you for giving a forever home to an older dog! He's a very lucky fellow to have landed with you. So tell us. What do you like best about him so far? What're the rough edges you'll need to address? Congratulations to all of you, especially Marshall! He is super sweet and mellow. Slipped right in like he belongs here. He has a LOT of rough edges that need attention, but most are not his fault. He did get into the garbage the other morning and I can see that if he was able to, he'd be a counter surfer. He had his post-adoption check up today and got the full list. Bacterial infection in both ears Yeast infection in/on skin (mostly back & tail) Sty near one eye Large cyst on neck (drained and benign) Both knees are pretty bad. Very arthritic, knee caps aren't where they belong. Sore back/hips, probably some arthritis and/or due to the knees being so bad. His teeth look great and his heart sounds good. The vet was happy with the diet I have him on, just having me add an Omega 3 to his diet, along with the joint supplement & probiotics I'm already giving him. He got his first medicated bath tonight. He was SOOO good, and felt good enough afterward that he actually played a little. He weighed 63.8lbs, we're going to slowly work him up to about 68 and see how he looks. With this hips/knees, we want to keep him lean, but right now, he is SKINNY.
