It is time to tell how is is going.
Most of my garden is already put to bed and covered with plastic. Everything has been early. A long heat wave.will do that. Lots of garlic and Yukon Gold potatoes have been put away. I have an entire freezer full of frozen raspberries. Now the blackberries are coming on. I have two different varieties and I am starting to wish I had planted only two of each instead of four of each variety.
My Kentucky Wonder climbing beans are just starting to bear and my Quickie corn is tasty. Of course, I will soon be buried in tomatoes. I finally got the Black Sea Man to grow. They are interesting, but not nearly as tasty as my Matinas.
Lots of sweet peppers have.already been dried. I use dried peppers and tomatoes.to make my own "Suddenly Salad" and lots of other things. I just grab a handful, crush them in my hand, and throw them in.
I am excited about one new thing. I love zucchini, but freezing it just doesn't work for me. I.am drying it in slices (and they are tasty.) 4 medium-sized zucs fit in a quart freezer baggie. I should be able to enjoy great zucchini all winter. I can also use it along with the dried tomatoes and peppers. I love the idea that I am actually going to be able to use all the zucchini I grow. I am making zucchini bread as I go and storing it in the freezer in vacuum bags.
Next year I am growing climbing peas. It is so much easier and rewarding to pick standing up. Besides, I love the vertical look my climbing beans are providing.
I trade my overabundance of basil, garlic and tomatoes to the local pizza place for free pizza. We even have the blessing of the local health inspector.
So, how is it going for the rest of you?
