We lost our beloved Paint, Katie this past week. No idea what happened, she wasn't standing with the other horses when I came to do chores on Tuesday night. I found her laying in the bottom pasture, no real marks on her and no sign of a struggle, just lying stretched out on her side, dead for at least a few hours. She had been just fine the night before when I did chores and that morning when my friend let Shadow out of his paddock, no signs of illness. She was 24 or 25 so that's a good run for most horses .... But when you have a 36 year old horse in the pasture, too, the much younger one is not the one you're always afraid will be gone one day. I will dearly miss my Katie... She was such a sweet girl and now I am out of riding horses to go with Mikayla for a trail ride.
I need to move my two remaining horses this coming weekend. PLease say a prayer my old guy Shadow handles this move okay. This will be two moves in 3 months after being at one place for 16 straight years. I worry about him so much, poor lil dot gets pictures and texts for second opinions every few weeks!

I'm so sorry. I'm glad she didn't suffer, but it is always hard to lose one, and harder when it is unexpected.

I am sorry. I am anticipating Shadow will handle this move just fine. He has a lifetime of experience to get him through.

I am so sorry for you loss. She went on her own terms. Regardless, it's still hard to lose one at any age. She is running free on other other side of the rainbow bridge.

I am so sorry... It is always hard to lose one, but it seems harder when we don't know *why*...

Again, I am so very sorry. I sure know your grief. Praying for your comfort, dear friend!
I hope the move went well. Are you having barn problems?

Thank you like the kind words ladies! We sure do miss her pretty face! Yip, I am moving the horses on a mostly selfish reason this time ... I would have dealt with it if Katie was still alive to keep my herd together but where I board now is 27 miles away .... In the opposite direction from anywhere I go. I drive at least 300-350 miles a week purely for the care of the horses and now that Katie is gone , I can't expect my friend to keep helping. She was Katie's owner although she was free leased to me for so many years. The horses were 5 miles away from my friend and on the route she took to work so she always let shadow out in the morning and did chores when I asked. Without her help, I will drive 500 miles a week and with the amount of time it takes, the horses pretty much take over my life. It's takes me 90 min to get home from work every night because I drive a half hour to horses , do chores for half hour and drive home a half hour. Having to do that in morning too would mean i was away from home 12 -14 hours a day depending on how long I work. The new place is 2 miles out of my way on my way home from work and the lady will let shadow out for me in the morning. It has 5 acres of pasture, barn stalls, round pen, huge lean to, hay is provided, etc..... But I am still worried how shadow will take the move. They will be the only horses right away but eventually one other horse will be added. I pray they are nice to my old guy.... Roxy can take care of herself but he's so delicate at 36.

Did you get them moved? How is Shadow taking it? Change can be hard on some horses, and others love the adventure. The positive is that your two are the only ones to start so he doesn't have to adjust to new surroundings and new horses at the same time. Hopefully by the time others join he will have adjusted to his new home.
