My friends are working with YWAM in Panama. The husband lost vision in one eye due to an accident as a child. He now has shingles on the other side of his face and is so swollen that he can't see out of his good eye. So, he is essentially blind right now. I also understand that shingles is very painful. Doctors don't have any recommendations to reduce the swelling quickly to restore vision. Please be praying for extra fast healing. Also, he had a detached retina in his "good" eye in January 2014. After surgery, his vision has been very slowly improving, but still has a ways to go. Please pray that when the swelling goes down, that his vision is restored to what it was in 2013.
Finally, please pray for his wife during this time. He is on 4 different meds and the longest time between meds during a 24 hour period is 5 hours one time. Between his pain, caring for him and giving meds (and concern I'm sure), she hasn't gotten much sleep the last two nights.
A couple that we both know has already planned to visit next week. The husband has church building experience, so can be another set of eyes on the house building.
Thanks!

Lots of prayers! My MIL had them in her eye - z-pak antibiotics worked wonders and hers resolved with no lasting effects in less than a week. They are VERY painful. Ted has had them more than once, which is very unusual, but with his immune system, I wasn't too surprised.

Of course, Dorothy. Shingles is nasty stuff (have you had your vaccine yet?)

I think some are dropping the age down.

Hope he recovers quickly. My mom had shingles twice, and they are very painful, and itchy. My oldest sister got the vaccine. You can get them younger than 60, but it's quite expensive and insurance won't cover it under 60.

Their names are Terry & Liz. Talked to their son today and he said the swelling also makes talking painful for Terry.

Update: "Much better day today! Nausea and vomiting subsided and he can actually open his eye without prying it open! Makes the 20eye drops per day much easier to give and it helps that I do not have to guide him."
We are still praying that he continues to recover quickly and that his vision returns to the level it was before his torn retina.

May 2nd Update "2 really bad nights with T. His pain last night was the worst. It is like electrical shocks going through his body. His entire body jerks every few minutes. The jerking has decreased this morning but the pain is constant. This is nerve pain so pain killers do not help. We have him on an aggressive medication regimen including valium. Please continue to pray."

May 3rd update "Update on Terry- No more shocking pain and a full nights sleep! Yea! There is still a great deal of pain but so much easier on a nights sleep. I am so grateful for a God who hears our cries and answers them and for the friends that offer them. Thank you and please continue to pray. Have a blessed day of worship!"

Prayers. You know you hear that Shingles is painful but until you "know" someone who has suffered through it, and hear the first hand account, you just don't really put it into perspective.

Update afternoon May 6th: Not having a good day here. Lots of nerve pain and the eye swelling has returned. Going to the doctor tomorrow. No jerking pain, though and that is very good! I think his body is just exhausted from all the pain.

Any updates, Dorothy? I remember the beautiful job he did on your kitchen. I bet it still makes you smile when you walk in.
Prayers continuing for Terry. I hope he's doing better now.
