Shiloh and I went 13 miles in 3 hours 48 minutes today, so about 3.45 miles per hour.
Keet is still doing a lot of 25 - 30 mile endurance rides (technically LD "Limited Distance" since "endurance" is 50 miles or longer). She is trying to do one 50 each year.
Now that I'm retired, I want to be able to go with her frequently. They have "intro" rides which are 10 - 15 miles at most endurance rides, so I'm going to do some of those. I'd like to do ONE 25 mile ride sometime, but not sure it will be this year.
A 25 mile LD has to be completed in 6 hours including a minimum of one hour hold in the middle, so 25 miles at over 5 miles per hour.
Keet did 16 miles while I did my 13. We rode together the first little bit and also the last third. Otherwise she would have done more miles.

Actually the hold does not HAVE to be that long but its convenient for the volunteers for figuring out the times, allows a good amount of time for the horses and riders to eat and helps keeps the vet lines relaxed since there is plenty of time to do that and still get the horse and rider snacks in so most rides do run them that way.
As Shiloh gets fit you'll probably find its easier on you to ride at 5+MPH. Its easier to mix in posting trot and easy canter and use different muscles.
I may do a ride clear in the other corner of Texas in June. They raffle off ride entries at our regioanal convention and I was drawn for an entry to one north of Amarillo. Now I have extra incentive to try to get horses fitted up by early summer.

June 5th & 6th? Keet and I are tentatively planning to be there!! Keet will probably do 30's each day. I might do an intro, but probably will just hang out - depends on how much mountains, etc.
I was told that the hold must be at least an hour for the LD rides.
We did do some trotting and cantering - cantering is the easiest for me. Hopefully we will slowly be able to increase the trotting and cantering and decrease the walking.

Yup that is the weekend. Probably a shorter drive for me than coming from the Houston area. Maybe the regional group in Texas has a minimum 1 hour hold rule or possibly AERC rules changed and I missed the change.
Riding 5 mph to be just on pace to finish is a good general rule of thumb, a few rides may have more than 2 hours of hold time in a 50 and a few, especially if they have smaller attendance will have less hold time but usually that is not enough to change the needed pacing by much.

I'll probably try to have both Sadie and Tanza ready for a 30 and haul them both down to ride one each day.
