When I separated Whatsit and Joe, I dusted Joe with diatomaceous earth before putting her in her old cage. I've never had bird mites before, and there are no mites in Colorado that might infect a parrot. But there are mites that would infect a crow. I do put them outside sometimes during the summer. Anyway, Joe is already growing feathers back and Whatsit, who didn't get dusted, is not. Maybe I have found the problem?

Smart lady to only dust one. Whatsit is patiently waiting to get dusted.

I might have gone ahead and dusted both of them at the time, but I was only picking one up and I wasn't sure it would do anything. Now they are both dusted. Once they look good again, I will try putting them back together. Mrs. Whatsit is entertaining herself just fine. But Joe looks like she misses the company.

Glad you found the problem. I bet they will be black and glossy in no time
