Thought I would just ride my mare in my LJ...but I am so out of shape and haven't ridden a lot the past few years that I found myself not wanting to go out of the arena and Pebbles hates arena work. So I started looking and decided to try the Cashel trail saddle. The thing that made me try it is that is says it has an Axis tree that moves the bars up and off her shoulders. Since that is her biggest issue I figured I would try it.
Oh my goodness...what a difference it has made in her. She was always good out on the trail even with the saddle that pinched her shoulders but I couldn't get any fluidity in the arena except with the LJ. With this new saddle she hesitated when I asked for a tight circle but then went nice and soft and made a perfect circle..both directions!! She has stopped pinning her ears when I saddle and we have gone for trail rides of 3 hours a couple of times last week and she was a gem. The first ride she made it known she did not like the other horses riding with us (but only the red ones) but was good as gold for everything I asked of her. We went through the golf course where we had not been before and there are big wooden coolers and flags all over the place. Not to mention the golfers and carts. Not one thing made her look more than once.
So now she is happy and I am happy The barn manager told me that she admired the fact that I believed there was an issue and didn't just force her to work with that old saddle...she said she would have thought she was just being witchy and would have made her work. Of course she thinks I baby my horses just a little to much and has told me that she would make them do a lot more than I do....so it's a good thing they are mine and not hers
