I am really pleased with how well your kids are doing. I used to teach in the public schools and I sure hope I didn't let kids fall through the cracks like I see happening today. It has always been a out parent involvement. You are the one making it happen. Congratulations!

Congrats!!! I used to hate school. Home schooling might have made it better. But it just wasn't done back then.

Congrats. Last year a couple of the teachers in my district started offering test retakes. In fact our administration really pushed for us all to allow retakes so I started allowing it too. I saw the same attitude with my students - well I can just retake it so no need to study or they thought they'd wait to see the test and then they would know what to study for the retake. I had students ask me as they were handing the test in - can I retake this tomorrow? Seriously - you haven't even gotten a grade back on it and had time to do more studying? So I require them to so some other work before they are allowed to retest - like a study guide or something. I really like the idea of the "grade recovery" method and would appreciate it if you could send me some specific examples.
