Spider is one calm and cool colt. He'll fight and argue but once you "win" he's all done. For instance one day last week I had to move him and his mom from one pasture to the other. Previously I had been leading him with a butt rope but decided he should know enough to lead just by the halter. He pulled and fought and argued and ended up flipping himself over - twice. Then he calmly led back to the pasture and now he leads wherever I want him too. He has that high tight side by side double swirl on his forward. Last night I decided to take him out of the pasture for a walk. Left his mom behind and he didn't care one bit that she was screaming like a fool(this is his 3rd time out of the pasture). He thought he was going to jump up and down and act like a lippazan stallion but one attitude adjustment and he just walked along. So I thought "what the heck let's see if he'll get in the trailer". He walked right up to it and looked inside, messed around with the butt bar a little, sniffed at the sawdust. I had Kelsey go get a bucket of grain and he took about 5 minutes to hop in. I was amazed. I never imagined he would get in - just wanted him to look around at it. Once he got in he just stood there and looked around and had some grain. Getting out didn't go so well - he half stepped, half jumped and totally fell out. So went on another little walk and then I decided to see if he'd get back in. This time it took a little longer (10 minutes) and finally he flew in with a huge leap, had some grain and this time didn't fall down when he came back out. All this while the other horses were running around and whinnying for him just in front of the truck. lh6.googleusercontent.com/Mxe7r1vp79JHTOYfjYBxGRLLqBsPpbQ5VA2SuCOSvlI=w311-h174-p-no

You sure do a good job with these babies. He is going to be as rock-solid as Twister.

I think that's why the trainers I see like them to just go in with front legs first and then back out. They are a little less frantic backing out then. But sounds like this guy is getting over it just fine

I started Fani on the trailer at one week. She LOVED going for rides and was an excellent traveler. Kudus for starting him this young, it pays off in the long run.

Trailpal - he wasn't backing out. He was coming out forward when he fell. When he got in it was all or nothing - no stopping with the front feet he just jumped in.
