We are doing a fund raiser for the Angels of Dance - Dancing For the Cure on August 9. This event is to be a Gangster Gala. What fun to be able to wear a Halloween costume before October! I also had no idea how may Great Gatsby parties were put on each year. I was looking on ebay for a costume and lots of dresses made JUST for the roaring 20s, Great Gatsby parties. Some really beautiful art deco beaded dresses out of England for really reasonable prices. I look forward to when I can fit into European sizes.
I am so thrilled at the items folks have sent for donations. Several massage therapists have donated certificates. One lady donated a silver and lapis necklace. Another lady donated 2 fun necklace, bracelet and earring sets. Goodies from Goodman donated a fruit basket. The DDS next door donated a free dental cleaning. There is a $200 gift certificate for a hair dresser. Another lady donated a fun basket full of body care items. One lady I met on line a few years ago friend painted a picture of ballroom dancers for this event. I’m just speechless, the photo she posted of it on my FB page is beautiful. FedEx tried to deliver it today, but that was the one time I made a quick dash to the DMV. Only 4 people in line and 8 tellers so it really was a quick trip, but not quick enough.
There are more - very cool items that have yet to come in. This should be a really great fund-raiser I’m really excited about this event! Besides the raffle items there will be a competition ballroom dress fashion show, a Pot Luck dinner and LOTS of dancing!

Wow what a FUN night we all had! It takes a lot of people to come to help pull off a fund raiser event. Got to the studio at 5 pm to help set up. There was a ballroom dress fashion show. We wanted to introduce none dancers and social dancers to the beauty and art work of the competitive gowns. We hung the dresses around the room so all could get the best view of them and check out sale tags. The Standard gowns always draw the best Ooohhhh with the arm floats and wings. I'm happy to say I got to sell a Latin/Rhythm dress. I had some tire kickers on 3 other dresses .... so maybe down the road I will get some calls.
We had a WONDERFUL pot luck dinner!! Someone even brought sodas and bottled water. There was a "bathtub gin" a.k.a wine cooler in a very large serving bowel. We told everyone they could also BYOB if they wished.
The raffle was wonderful. I am so pleased with the donations from dance teachers, dance friends as well a cyber friends. The treasures on the table inspired folks to buy chances.
½ way through the night Tony switched from his gangster hat to his cop hat a police badge with baton. He started to arrest the girls. I think he MIGHT have bit off more than he could chew with my friend Julie. She's quite a hand full and played the part perfectly when he told her HANDS AGAINST THE WALL. He had her walk the flashlight (zig zag) line and told he was arresting her for being drunk! Her friends paid her bail money, but she didn't want to leave jail. She and Steve were having WAY too much fun dirty dancing atop the wooden bench. Folks got after Tony for ONLY arresting the girls so he turned over his cop duties to Markie who went after everyone. The rules were...You Can Only Be Arrested One Time! Tony said quite a few girls were begging him to arrest them again. LOL It was a VERY fun night lots of dancing even though the singer was singing off key most of the night.
We had a few minor glitches, this was our first attempt at this type of fund-raising. Live and learn. I think the concept was a good idea. Just need to find a better way to get the word out and get more people to come to this event. I think there were a few major events going on last Saturday night.
There were a few sour people. One demanded more single men attend the event. Would love that and told her we welcomed every single man she could bring with her. Another girl was mad at us for what she spent on a costume. Still have yet to figure out how we are at fault for that. We did not have a best costume award. The event price was $20 per person. Where can you eat all you want, drink all you want, dance all you want and goof around with friends for less? AND be in a safe environment?
So after all this we are only short $1,500 from our goal.

Sounds like a blast was had!! Sounds like the few unhappy people were the kind you just can' t please. Really more single men? Its not a dating event. And for spending too much on her costume, well I guess that is her fault. Heck you can make up some fancy costumes at a goodwill store. Congrats on being so close to your goal.
