Her teeth: Her Head: The welcoming Crew, or most of it.

No one on facebook wanted to play guess the age, so what are your guesses? I was TOLD she was 11, but I take that with a grain of salt.
The last picture is that old guys, Cody (QH 20) Joey (1/2 Arab.19) and BJ (Mutt..23+) They don't look bad for the old guys.

Pretty head. Hopefully, the rest of her will match that pretty head in a few months.

I don't know how to gauge horse age by teeth but I *think* one needs to see wear on the molars to get more idea.
You are a sweetie to rescue this poor girl. The old guys are looking good, and I hope its not hard to get her looking that good, maybe even better if that age is correct.
People who hang on to a horse but don't feed it suck IMO, I'd put mine down rather than have them starving on their feet if I ran into hard times. --I'd try to sell the healthy youngsters of course but the oldies would get a guaranteed easy trip across the rainbow bridge.

I'd say her age is pretty accurate. Horses are aged by their incisors; and the one that shows the goods it the corner. It's becoming triangular in shape, and still has the dental star in the center. The angle is still more upright rather than wedging out too. The thing we can't see is the Galvayne's groove, because it's all full of calcium deposits. That would help tell us if she's more toward 15 than 10.
She has a beautiful face. I hope you can do some good for the rest of her. I can stand to see a horse this thin being handed over by someone if they're also bone thin, don't smoke or drink, and have sold most everything they have to buy feed. Unfortunately, most rescues are full to the rafters, and people simply can't even give them away; and being able to pay the vet to put them down is out of reach.

Bullets are not all that expensive and would eliminate worries about safe disposal. I know folks tend to think things will get better and can be honestly blind to gradual deterioration but in IMO when you buy or breed a horse or pet that should mean making a commitment to doing right by it and that includes cowboying up if(usually when) a hard decision has to made to prevent it from suffering.
But that is off track here. Cathie and her FIL are wonderful for rescuing this mare and many of those old guys who are looking so good. I fear I could veer into becoming a hoarder if I started bringing rescues home so I only donate to Lost Fantasy and Hay Bank outfits.

She isn't standing straight in the picture. With groceries she may end up being closer to 14 hands, which, in my opinion, is the perfect height for a horse. A couple hundred pounds and she will be gorgeous. She will be very willing, but a little timid, with that head. She won't be forced into anything, but will do her best to do whatever you wish when treated with kindness and clear expectations. I know you didn't pick he up for a saddle horse, but don't be surprised when she turns out to be the best.

As skinny as she is, those teeth should look brand new! Seriously though, I'm glad you got her and can get her looking and feeling better

That's my dad in the pictures. He was out showing mom (who was taking the pictures) the new addition. When we measured her she was square. But even at 13.2 she is a great size. My riding horses are only 14hh or so. My baby (Odin) stands 15.2 and he is to tall for my liking. It will take time, but she will be nice and filled out. We know it will not happen over night. I have already told Kari no one will ride her until at least fall. Late summer if she really picks up weight.

Well she has the bone structure to be a nice looking horse. And I agree with you 13.2 to 14 hands is the perfect height. LOL I imagine shes not too old just by the angle of the teeth. I bet we would all LOVE to see pictures of her as she puts on weight. The welcoming crew is pretty cute too.

I told my daughter I would like to remember to take weekly weights and measurements. Not sure if we will keep it up. But I want to try. We didn't for Cherokee, but before he passed away, he was nice and healthy.
