I think I updated that I had purchased a weanling last fall? Ok lost my mind but sure enjoying him. Hadn't done near as much planned through the cold nasty winter and wet spring as planned but he's growing and growing. 13.d at the fanny when measured last week 13.1 at the wither, he's not a full yearling till June. This weekend was so beautiful refreshed his groundwork a bit and took him for a walk...we both needed it, me the exercise him the "me" time. Then let him out to play with the rest. Can't leave him out yet with everyone full time since Shan is such a hard boss gelding. Once the front lot dries up will put shan out front by his lonesome for a couple days and then introduce Ruger. See while he is a brat to new horses in the pasture he is also herdbound to having the other horses around... funny they don't feel the same... so if spends some time by his lonesome whalla instand attitude change. Now my girlfriends say they can't wait to ride with me and Ruger first time we hit the river up north. They say "you are doomed to get wet in the river" I say he just get hot running around when first turned out and needs a cool down.... tell me I'm not doomed to get wet (the old horses faces when he does this are priceless...)

And do all foals do this?? Sigh... I've told them if he keeps doing it it will be a nice fan/bug deterant device for our trail rides... And an obligatory Finn photo for Donna.... Finn is loving having a younger horse around to play with

That second-to-last picture belongs in a frame. Look at that reflection!

That was a great day for photos have several with nice reflections. Most of that water is gone now although more rain predicted... and this morning they closed our road maybeeee because the road grator got stuck in front of the farm oopsie... so I ended up parking back from him and walking down to do chores. Darn it. they fixed it up 5 or 6 years ago and has been good in the spring since then but not this year. It's even worse up past the farm (coming from our house anyway). They speculate there are underground springs under the road in those spots and it gets just like quicksand. When was walking ruger he was loving playing in the ruts, except the spots he sunk to his knees LOL. That just made him ornery.

Great pics but I'm a little confused. Is Ruger the dog or the colt? If it's referring to the dog or the colt what does this sentence mean? " When was walking ruger he was loving playing in the ruts, except the spots he sunk to his knees LOL. That just made him ornery."

LOL Ruger is the colt I take him for walks with me sort of like a big dog... Should be riding Rhet and ponying him but to be honest I gained too much weight this winter so we are walking together so "I" get more exercise.

Get him good at going "forward" - he can't drop and roll if he's moving forward

Hes a cutie!!! Sure going to be flashy, is he dark bay or black? Hard to tell on my monitor. I too love the shot with the reflection but the rolling rearing shot is great too, and well you won't have to worry about him not liking water? LOL

They are all lovely - Ruger looks like he has QUITE the personality.
Maybe it's a "Ruger" thing, because I have a cat by that name that has a far overabundance of personality! LOL

Great pics, they made me smile. Sadie was a bit of a water bug as a weanling but then she grew into her ayrab roots.

He is a goofball that's for sure... right now forward isn't a big deal but I am sure that will change as he matures... along with the water ducky issue I hope. Marci not sure what color he will shed finally too. He still has the lighter inside of the ears and such. Thought maybe a liver chestnut when first bought him but just don't know now... edited to add: his parents were both black n white paints in color, however dad was 1/2 TB This was his foal pic the breeder shared with me....(thia is not his dam in the background just another mare there at the farm) Dirty Sunfaded Sire... he is a big boy...but very sweet

He has lots of good horses to model appropriate behavior. Soon you be able to start ponying him out to see the world from the back of the horse you want him to grow up to be like.

Yes that's our plan... just gotta get things to dry up and get out riding. Have some trails around the farm and the arena to start but some parts are under wanter and not wanting to tear up the ground goign through the low spots yet. And he'll go on some of the shorter weekend camping trips this summer too.
