WOW Res that is a new one! I would like to think I would shred something like that.
I have some small oil and gas interests. I'm alway getting letters from some clearing house that is wanting to buy my interest. They include a very real check. (Nice to see my 1 dinky royalty interst has gone up in value to them.) ANYWAY I was mentioning this to my dad. He said you HAVE to be very careful and READ the document VERY well. Some of those leave it "open" and say ANY interest you may have in Such and Such county. If you cash the check you COULD be selling your interests in several wells, not just the main one listed.
This thread has become very interesting over time.

I got an email from a company saying that they owed me a few hundred dollars but needed my address to send the check. That sounded really odd, so I looked them up and called the number I got online (instead of the number in the email). Turns out it was honest - it was a large company I worked for in 2000. They had tried mailing me my check but I had moved from the address they had on file. So we got that straightened out to my satisfaction and sure enough, within two weeks, I had a real check that did not bounce.
So sometimes it might be for real, but you have to find out. Here at work we are always getting training about how to recognize phishing scams, so I knew what to do. Don't ever call/email/click on links from what's provided in a suspicious email - go look it up from a trusted source.

Well "our" Windowds Problem detected guy called the office again. Let him give me his line. Told him I was in IT and know they just don't do that. He never skipped a beat and kept talking. I finally told him he was full of it, get a life and put his life of crime into helping the world instead.

I get about three calls a week, always from a different phone number and from varying states. Since my home service is tied to tv and internet, I worry about having them on the phone line for any length of time. I suspect they may actually be able to download virus when you have a three in one service. So insulting, disruptive and invasive.... sick of them.

LOL, this thread is from a couple of years ago.
And guess what? I just got this call the other morning! First time for me, but my hubby has been getting them a lot recently. The guy that called me had pretty much no accent, so when I laughed and laughed and hung up the phone, I'm fairly sure he knew what I meant.

It's kinda fun to revisit old threads that still have current happenings and hear about those.
