I got into a patch of biting insects somehow and my left leg is now a mass of itchy bites YUCK. But yesterday afternoon I was scratching a cluster of bites on the outside of my left calf - nothing unsualy, just very itchy. Then a few hours later, around 8pm, I went to scratch again and there was a large dark brown/black smooth mole there that has NEVER been there before - I freaked I'm very fair and melanomas run in my family. It's about the size of a dime, maybe a little smaller and totally flush with the skin, but it has never been there before, of that I am certain. Making a dr's appt ASAP. It'as surely nothing and I'm probably being silly, but could I get a few prayers for that silliness, that it really is nothing?

It's almost certainly nothing. But you're very smart and will sleep easier getting it checked out. And of course you have my prayers.

Honestly, a dime-sized mole that wasn't there yesterday would be enough to send even me running to the Dr right away.
I hope it's nothing, but it's certainly not anything to mess around with.

Probably a reaction to the bites but very wise of you to get it checked out ASAP to make sure.

Seems strange that it would be a mole, but it could be something else that bears checking out.
I hope it turns out to be nothing!

Hope it turns out to be nothing but if it is you probably caught it early. My step father had melanomas, he lived to the ripe age of 93, but he also had a few surgeries for them. He was blonde and grew up in Blythe Ca, where its normally 115 or up in the summer. Bet he sure looked good with a tan and blonde hair.....

I would take is serious too. Our pastor had melanoma on his back. I mean how random is that, a place that rarely gets sun.

N'O, our dr. said the sun damage that's showing up now at our age - we probably did as teenagers. An adult back wouldn't get much sun, but a teen's would.
Prayers, Karen. I hope it's just a *hive* or something associated with the allergic reaction to the bug bites.

I tend to agree that it is a reaction to the bug bites....but in any case...looking for the silver lining, here....it's a good thing that you got the bug bites because the you noticed the *spot*. Sounds a little like circular reasoning, I know, but you know what I mean In any event, you'll get it checked, it will be nothing of consequence and maybe you'll get some relief from the itching. Lots of Vitamin H would help at this time!

I've also read that it's more common for suspicious moles and spots to show up on skin that doesn't get much sun. It has something to do with the decreased melanin allowing cancerous cells to establish and multiply faster.
I'll be thinking good thoughts for you, Karen. Surely it's nothing, but I'm glad you're acting quickly, *just in case.*

Interesting--I'm glad you are getting it checked out. I suspect it is related to the bug bites somehow, but still..... You will let us know after your appointment what the expert who can actually see it says, won't you?
