I got into a patch of biting insects somehow and my left leg is now a mass of itchy bites YUCK. But yesterday afternoon I was scratching a cluster of bites on the outside of my left calf - nothing unsualy, just very itchy. Then a few hours later, around 8pm, I went to scratch again and there was a large dark brown/black smooth mole there that has NEVER been there before - I freaked I'm very fair and melanomas run in my family. It's about the size of a dime, maybe a little smaller and totally flush with the skin, but it has never been there before, of that I am certain.
Making a dr's appt ASAP. It'as surely nothing and I'm probably being silly, but could I get a few prayers for that silliness, that it really is nothing?
Hope it turns out to be nothing but if it is you probably caught it early. My step father had melanomas, he lived to the ripe age of 93, but he also had a few surgeries for them. He was blonde and grew up in Blythe Ca, where its normally 115 or up in the summer. Bet he sure looked good with a tan and blonde hair.....
I walk to the beat of a different drummer, and that drummer is within me. And I've seen it on an Electrocardiogram.
I've also read that it's more common for suspicious moles and spots to show up on skin that doesn't get much sun. It has something to do with the decreased melanin allowing cancerous cells to establish and multiply faster.
I'll be thinking good thoughts for you, Karen. Surely it's nothing, but I'm glad you're acting quickly, *just in case.*
Wherein I chronicle the ups and downs, the stitching and ripping, the knitting and frogging.
Interesting--I'm glad you are getting it checked out. I suspect it is related to the bug bites somehow, but still..... You will let us know after your appointment what the expert who can actually see it says, won't you?
