The amount of white caught my eye too. She looks to me more like a Paint with minimal white. I hope he finally gets with her so she at least knows if she is or not.
She said he told her he never got the papers from the lady he got her from.
Thanks for looking, but unless he follows through I am guessing she'll never know. Shame, really, because she's a pretty nice mare. That's a horrid picture of her, she looks much nicer in person. Aside from being a bully (she's been beating up on Nib in the pasture) she's a really nice horse.

When I got Bug she came without papers. The person who owned her before me hadn't transferred her and lost the papers. We had her registration number and registered name though. (don't ask me how the person had that but not the actual papers?) We were able to contact her last official owner who remembered her and filled out the lost papers paperwork. I sent pics to her and the $ for the new papers and she sent it in to AQHA, then when the replacement papers came she sent them to me with a signed transfer.
I believe technically the seller is supposed to send in the transfer in some associations. One of the local auction barns here gives you a copy of the papers and they send in the paperwork to have the horse transferred. The fees are charged on top of your purchase price.

What about looking with "Kassandra" as part of the name? That's kind of what I was thinking, Kassie being a shortening of the registered part.
I see a lot of white face, but is there splash on the belly I'm missing? Seriously, that amount of white would have knocked her out?
Maybe she's registered APHA, not AQHA? Most dealers don't spend a whole lot of time checking into their resale horses, so perhaps he saw papers and assumed QH.... just some thoughts to keep ya percolating.

No, the white you see is all she has. But I was thinking the white rule was "no white above the knees" and the white extends to the top of her knee, so maybe that was enough to knock her out?
Good point on Paint. Is there any way to look up Paints? And Kassandra too. I tried the '99 horse on allbreedpedigree last night and nothing came up. Neither did an internet search on the name or the last known owner.

Fancy has way more white than that and was registered AQHA before the rule change. I think the line was mid way between the knee and elbow. I know Fancy had to be "inspected" before AQHA okd her.
I would guess she's got no papers. Maybe she "could have been" registered - as in both parents were registered but no one bothered to send her paperwork in. Especially if she's actually APHA breeding stock - for some reason people don't think it's impt to send papers in on them.
Oh well you can't ride papers so as long as she works for your friend who cares. Though I understand wanting to know the bloodlines just for the heck of it.

She looks paint to me.
I think her owner must have been given a "line' when he said she was registered. The ad says she is unregistered unless I read it wrong.
The white that comes up to the knee.. seems to go 1/2 way into the knee. What are the rules for registering AQHA and white stockings? How much is too much?

The ad says she's not registered, but the seller told my friend that he "didn't get the papers from the lady he got her from" which implies that there ARE papers, he just didn't get them.
The's got to be registered, or at least could have been registered at some point. She's awful nice to be a true grade horse. But I'm guessing she'll never know.
She wants to use her for barrel racing, I think she'll do well. She's VERY fast, blew past me and Nib and we were really moving, and handles very well.

The white rule from the AQHA website:
(1) A line parallel with the ground drawn around the front leg at the point halfway between the point of the elbow (the center of the olecranon tuberosity or proximal epiphysis of the ulna) and the protrusion on the back of the knee (the accessory carpal bone or lateral styloid process). (2) A line parallel with the ground at the center of the gaskin on the hind legs. (The center of the gaskin shall be defined as an imaginary point on the front of the gaskin equidistant between the stifle joint and the center of the hock.) The top point of reference to be the bony protrusion on the inside (medial) of the stifle region (technically known as the medial condyle of the tibia) and the most prominent bony protrusion at the top and inside of the hock (technically known as the medial malleolus of the tibia). (3) A line around the horse’s neck immediately behind the poll and through the midpoint of the throat latch. (4) Within an area described as two inches on either side of the ventral midline, beginning at a point midway between the front legs and extending to, and including, the sheath and udder. (5) Additionally, there is allowed a single area of white markings with underlying light skin, such that it can be completely covered with a disk one inch in diameter, either free standing on the horse’s body or being a portion of white marking extending past the above prescribed lines. [(6) Areas of white, pink, or mottled skin located on the horse’s genitalia, including the sheath or udder, in the axillary region (armpits), or inside the hind legs including the inner surface of the hindquarters up to and including the ventral surface of the tail and which are not readily visible when the horse is in a standing position are not considered white markings as described in (d) above.

My old QH Sienna was one I always thought was probably registered at some point. She looks so QH-y (old time, she's 26 after all) she could have been used for an ID photo for the breed. I figured her cosmetic issue was why. A cull perhaps when young, if the accident happened then. Or because of the disfigurement she was sold cheaper therefore no papers... that happened back then back there from what I understood. Her front left high foreleg muscle is pretty much gone, replaced by a flat spot and a network of scars. Anyway, as I labor to make a short point , sometimes you just never find out for sure. And it doesn't affect anything unless you're breeding or showing breed assoc. shows.

They've extended the white rule in recent years. I can't remember exactly what it was. But something like 1/2 up the knee and nothing behind the eyes/lips.

Actually there is no more white rule in AQHA. As long as both parents are AQHA you can register them AQHA no matter how much white they have. The rule changed in 2004 and a bunch of horses were allowed in at that time that had previously been turned down due to too much white (most had been registered APHA). APHA now has a paint parent rule also to keep horses from being double registered as AQHA and APHA. There was some overlap in the white requirements that allowed some "crop outs" to still make it into the AQHA registry as well as the APHA registry. I believe Fancy could have been registered as both but her owner didn't do it and by the time I got her the paint parent rule was in force.

I owned Kassy Ashe (chestnut mare with socks and blaze). She would be 34 yrs old today. She had Leo in her lineage and Wimpy. My AQHA membership is expired or I’d look her up.
