Thinking about getting some wide comfy trail stirrups. I think EZ ride are the main ones available. The nylon is the cheapest - any reason to NOT get nylon? thanks

Sheryl, I have wide trail stirrups with the cushion pads in them. I love them but they are the metal ones. They are dangerous! Heavy and clunk around all over the place when you are trying to saddle up. If you get the nylon ones let me know how you like them, I might try them if they give you the support the heavier ones do.

I had nylon stirrups once. I am a heavyweight rider, and I found that those particular stirrups flexed when I stood in them - the floor of the stirrup bowed slightly and squeezed the side of my foot a little, plus it got a little longer when I stood in the stirrup. Since I ride English and posted, and nearly always rode at the trot, I got a lot of little squeezes and my feet got sore. I sold them to a lightweight rider and she was very pleased with them.
That was maybe 20 years ago, I would imagine they have reinforced them to be more rigid but I don't know for sure.

Haven't been posting much lately...
I have a pair of the nylon EZ ride stirrups. I LOVE them. I got the safety cages so I can ride in tennis shoes, due to my leg hardware.
In the "trading post" Chris has some a very nice pair of TRAIL TECH III stirrups. The saddle I bought recently also came with a pair, and they are very nice. They have a shock absorption band at the top and it *really* absorbs quite a bit of the shock.

I have TWO sets of the nylon E-Z ride stirrups. I love them so much, that I didnt want to put any other type of stirrup on my spare saddle. While it is only Suzanne or lately, Jan's hubby, that uses my spare, it is in my best interest to make them as comfortable as I possible can. The longer they are comfortable, the longer the ride will be This is PROOF that you can be nice AND selfish at the same time!

I have cloud stirrups on my least used saddle, they are too heavy, exactly like Donna said. I have 2 pair of nylon easy ride stirrups and a pair of OF nylon stirrups. on my LJ, main endurance saddle and backup LJ -- I like the easy rides the best. The EZ ride aluminum prob'ly wouldn't be near as bad as the clouds because the stirrups are considerably less bulky but I'm not interested in finding out personally.

My hubby's nylon ones broke while he was getting so I got the leather covered ones. He loves them but watch your head when saddling!
