My Horse Pal fly trap is catching 50 flies to every one in my home-made biting fly trap. I would have told you that we didn't have as many biting flies all summer as are in my trap in just one week. I am actually going to have to dump this trap out in a couple more weeks--something I have never had to do. (Ordinarily, we don't get nearly this many biting flies here--but, of course, we don't ordinarily have a summer like this one.)
I am going to make a change to my home-made trap (put a band of burlap around the bottom of the screen) to see if that brown solid strip isn't part of the secret. We will also be moving the trap to a better location.
Even my DH, who hates to spend money, has calculated that this trap is only costing him $27 a year. For that kind of money, there is no way we are going to try to make another trap on our own. This guy has the system down--his engineering is marvelous and it works unbelievably well. And I can move it all by myself and I don't need a ladder to empty the collection jar.

Good deal! Being up in the mountains, you must have more of these critters than we do. I've never seen anything other than the regular black flies that look like house flies, and I haven't even seen too many of them this year, though it's still early, I guess.
I agree that engineering and research and development is usually worth what you pay for it, especially when it works!
