Last year just before New Years I had a pretty bad gall bladder attack - enough to go to the ER at 3am. I was *supposed* to get it taken out back then but, it stopped hurting so ... no pain, no rush. Well, fast forward to the weekend before Thanksgiving and I have another attack. This time I decided it had to come out NOW. 1 because the episodes were getting longer and 2 because we are vacation to the 4th so no time like the present. Had the consult, scheduling and lab work all last Tuesday and had the surgery today (Monday) at 3pm. The surgeon wanted to wait until after the New Year but I explained that being self-employed and off until January, the interim would be better so he got it set for today instead. According to what he told DH afterwards, it was all textbook except for the fact that the GB was starting to "go bad" in a bad way - that is what DH translated to me but I have a follow-up for the 5th so I'll find out the details then. So far, so good. Between DH, the cats and the drugs I am recouperating just fine.

About 11-11:30pm I heard what sounded like hooves back here by my computer room. I thought, surely the mares haven't gotten loose. Looked out the window and saw nothing - then the furnace (outside) came on, so I thought it was that I heard cycling preparing to come on.

Went out to feed at midnight and was opening the lock on the shed when I heard a walking noise reeeeally close in front of me in the shadows. Then 2 legs walked into view and my heart almost stopped beating. 2 legs coming up from the ground disappearing into the shadows at about waist height. I thought it was a man standing there and I was too stunned to do anything but think, "I've always felt so safe here. I'd never expect to see a person here at midnight (or any other time). I'm in real trouble." It took one step closer into full light - and it turned out to be Buddy, my neighbor's TWH (that got dumped on him)!

OMGosh, he scared the poo out of me! I was so glad to see him, and he was just as glad to see me because he knows me. I'd been carrying the mares' new halters and leads in a box to the shed, so they were right at my feet. Took a minute to get him hooked up. OMGosh, when did he grow so tall? He has to be 16.2-3 - and doesn't know how to put his head down.

My girls were in the corral so I thought it would be best to put buddy in Rose's stall overnight. He came with me but was obviously scared, snorting the entire time. He was too upset so I knew he couldn't stay there. Our stalls are pipe corral and not bolted in the walls enough to hold a big scared horse. He pooped 3x in the 5 minutes he was in the stall.

So I finagled all the gates and took him out and around through the back yard again and let him in the pasture behind the corral. He kicked and flung his hay - he has grass all year. Turned the fences on because he's only got 3 strands of electric tape between him and my mares. I hope they don't do any real damage, and I hope Rose doesn't hurt Cookie. She won't let Cookie near her boyfriend.

When I call him, he comes running right to me. *I* am his only security, and I'm not staying out there all night. Poor guy. I don't know when or where he got out, but he's really scared. I love him, but I can't wait till he goes home. It's stressful for all of us. I am so blessed that he knows me, because as scared as he was, I was prepared for him to break in half at any time - but he didn't.

I had no idea he trusted me that much. Just goes to show how much handling he doesn't get by his owner. He comes to me at the fence and lets me skritch him forever. He's so starved for attention.

That is Wonderful!!!
You know I do sit up in bed before I even get up and when I come back down I kind of stretch my neck, it adjusts my neck just a tiny bit. I feel much better, if I miss a day cause I'm lazy or because I have to spring out of bed for some reason my neck and body feels out of whack, I found out I can even adjust between my should blades the same way.
And I am so glad that you have grown into the perfect team.

Well the hair doesn't bug me so much but the fights...drive me nuts. And they aren't the screaming fits they are out for blood. I think though if I send Gizmo back then his sister is gonna be terrorized by the big orange guy. He has already chased her a few times. I wish my Mom had never gotten these cats. If worse comes to worse I guess they could become outdoor barn kitties. But I put an ad up on Craigslist. Once this wound has healed on Sweetie then I will open their window and let them come and go, then try to move the food out to the barn. That is if no one takes them off my hands. I have had Gizmo for 7 years...its not fair to him to be sent back to the humane society because Mom & Dad got cats at too late an age. But really 5 cats is too much for me inside.

I finally got myself to a Chiropractor about 3 weeks ago. I have felt crooked since my accident almost 2 years ago in Feb. I couldn't sit square in the saddle, always fighting my right right flying forward, always feeling simply *off*. Not being able to stand for long periods of time. First I blamed it on the fact that my bones weren't lined up as they should be, hence my 2nd surgery. Then I blamed in on the fact that I hopped around on one leg for 6 months out of that year. ::)

So I filled out the paperwork at the chiro, and all I said was I had a tib/fib fracture from a horse wreck. No details. At the beginning of my visit, I showed him my ankle, mostly so he would know to be careful and not go yanking on it unaware.

He uses kinesiology muscle testing to pinpoint the areas that are out. He found my right hip to be very weak, and my right shoulder to be weak as well. However, nothing was out in either area, so he followed the trail all the way up to my neck. What floored me was when he asked if I fell sitting mostly on my right hip, then fell back and hit my head. Umm yep that's exactly what happened. Keep in mind I had told him nothing.

What happened was when I hit the ground, a shock wave from the impact went all the way to my neck and knocked 3 places significantly out of alignment. He said that being out was causing nerve issues giving my hip and shoulder the weakness. He got 3 HUGE cracks from my neck, and saw me again a week later to do the same thing.

I am straight for the first time in 2 years. My right hip no longer kind of wobbles in place. I no longer drop my right shoulder constantly. That's not the best part though.

I hadn't ridden in at least a month before yesterday. Normally after that long, there would be some insecurity just from the lack of doing it. When I climbed on, I was CRAZY secure. I mean, I felt square, right, straight.

Holly had a chiro visit too last month, and her canter issues are resolved now, as far as I can tell. Put those pieces together, and we had our dream canter this evening. *Squeals* OMG we were trotting along at her amazing extended trot, and everything felt right, so I leaned forward a tad and just said "ok, let's do it" and she went into this smooth, controlled rocking chair canter. I felt completely straight, didn't bounce, was completely with her, it just felt *right* for the first time in a very long time. I even let her go into a slow gallop on a loose rein, and felt perfectly balanced for it. We both had issues we didn't know about, and now things have clicked in ways I didn't know could be. ;D

Something else hit me this evening. Holly is becoming my perfect horse. We work well together, have so much fun together... She certainly wasn't that when we got her, but has blossomed into something amazing. I get chills when I think about it.

Thanks for reading my novel. :P

N*O that must be one lulu of a dishwasher! There is one in this place but I think it was installed wrong. I used it once (it's brand new) and it wouldn't drain. I mopped it out and dried it and have not used it since.

Yip that is so funny! I call them sweepers too, and nobody knows what I mean... people generally think I mean a broom. Then I get corrected that it's properly called a "vacuum cleaner".

(I knew what you meant by sweeper from a different thread.)
